Gordon Lightfoot – The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

In the 1975 a big lake freighter, known as the Edmund Fitzgerald, sunk in Lake Superior during a storm. At the time it was huge news on both sides of the border. Less than a year later Gordon Lightfoot release his song, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. This is a song where both the lyrics and the music elicit an emotional response.

Kate Bush – Running Up That Hill

This Kate Bush song was a big hit in the 80s, but it gained new recognition after it was featured in the Netflix series, Stranger Things. Many of Kate’s song have an emotional edge to them. That emotional edge increased after having watched Stranger Things Season 4. Since this is Max’s favorite song I now think about what was done to her.

Johnny Cash – Hurt

Hurt was written by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and its about drug addiction. Johnny Cash covered it but made the same lyrics about his life. On its own it is a great song, but when combined with the video it becomes a very emotional one.
